Training With the World Athletics Center

Hi Everyone!

This summer I found out that I had been accepted to train at the World Athletics Center in Phoenix, Arizona and was offered a Semi-Pro Membership.

When I first applied, I never thought that I would actually find myself in the position to leave everything I know and head west. I was a Division III athlete and albeit highly decorated, you rarely hear about Division III athletes making a name for themselves after college. I knew it would be a push and that to carve a space out for myself in the world of professional track & field would take more than I had previously given.

My senior year was nothing short of balancing the common stresses of turning in senior capstone projects and worrying about whether or not I would have a job at the end of the summer, but I was also trying to put out my best performances on the track. For me, it was a means of proving to myself that my dream of continuing to run after college was not unfounded. I made a lot of progress in my final year as a Lyon. I notched two of the fastest times in Division III history in the indoor 400m and 200m, secured my second 400m national title, broke two school records, set a national record, was named the indoor USTFCCCA Division III Indoor National Athlete of the Year, and was named the indoor and outdoor USTFCCCA Division III Regional Track Athlete of the Year. While I never dreamed of being as successful as I was at Wheaton, I know that there is still a lot of work left to do.

The Semi-Pro Membership with the World Athletics Center was created for "performers moving towards elite, but not quite world class at the present moment". This is the opportunity that I have been waiting for, a foot in the door.

As a Semi-Pro member, I will benefit from the following:

Athletes are based full-time at the WAC;
Supervision from assistant coach;
Training planned by lead coach;
Custom on site programming;
Limited track side performance therapy;
Massage therapy from apprentice student practitioner;
Periodic video review and lead assistant coach analysis;
General nutritional education and advice;
Full athlete services which includes assisting athletes and coaches with housing, transportation, and other specific logistical requirements. WAC has excellent preferred rates with a number of housing and car rental alternatives, including with Zona Resort Suites and Avis;
Liability insurance included.

I recently relocated to Phoenix to begin my training and am currently working in order to save up for the cost of meet entries and travel/lodging during competition. As you may know, dreams do not come without expense- the initial reason for my GoFundMe page, and I am asking for help again. I am hoping to raise an additional $3,000 in order to supplement the cost of meet entry, travel to and lodging during competition.

While I am now working, I am only able to take part-time hours so that I can dedicate as much time as possible to my training. We practice Monday through Saturday from 9:00am-2:00pm, with a second hour-long session later in the afternoon on Tuesdays and Thursdays. These part-time hours do not necessarily bring in the kind of money that is needed to support myself as well as my career running.

I chose to capitalize on my opportunity with the World Athletics Center to further develop as an athlete, immerse myself within a high octane training environment, become exposed to some of the best athletes and coaches in the sport and at the end of it all- to compete.

Please share my story. If 300 people will donate $10, I will reach my new goal. To make a donation please visit http://www.gofundme.com/shantelittle or visit my website at http://www.shantelittle.weebly.com.
